14 September 2006
The 2006 HSBC World Match Play Championships start today, 14 September.
Sixteen of the world's top golfers, including world number one, Tiger Woods, will take part in the four day tournament at the Wentworth golf club in Surrey, which offers a winners' cheque of £1million.
A regularly updatated blog will bring you all the action from the course, as the competition progresses.
HSBC is one of the world's largest corporate golf sponsors and supports a range of professional, amateur and grassroots championships right across the world. The HSBC Women's World Match Play Championships was won earlier this year by Brittany Lincicome, while later in the year, Englishman Paul Lawrie will defend his HSBC Champions crown in Shanghai.
HSBC's UK-based Wee Wonders tournament for youngsters between the ages of five and 12 attracted 2,500 entrants this year. The eight winners visited HSBC's head office to meet Tiger Woods in the run-up to today's World Match Play championship.
