HSBC staff make the grade in university studies

03 May 2005

HSBC staff in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are going back to university, but not in the traditional sense.

More than 100 of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited's 700 UAE national staff have so far studied under the bank's university programme, set up in February 2004 to provide tailored and comprehensive career development opportunities for staff.

Seventeen staff members have completed six months of the training, which includes a combination of classroom events, business projects and attachments to HSBC branches and departments.

Celia Daniels, Head of Human Resources at HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, said that HSBC is committed to recruiting the very best talent in the market. She added: "As one of the world’s leading international financial institutions, we can provide real opportunities for people who want to develop their career.

"Currently, HSBC is one of the biggest employers of UAE nationals in the banking industry with staff working in all areas of the bank."

HSBC Bank Middle East, a principal member of the HSBC Group since 1959, has received a number of awards for its efforts in attracting and developing the careers of UAE nationals.
