19 December 2005

HSBC is spreading good cheer during the festive season by donating £180,000 to international charities, in lieu of sending corporate Christmas cards to key clients and suppliers.

Over the past five years, the world’s local bank has donated more than £1 million to international charities through its corporate Christmas card scheme. This year, six healthcare, support and education charities will each receive £30,000:

• Fundación para la Asistencia Educativa, Mexico - a day care centre in Netzahualcoyotl in Mexico City which provides healthcare and education to children from poorer backgrounds;
• Down's Syndrome Association, UK - which provides information and support for people suffering from Down’s Syndrome, and their families and carers;
• L’Enfant @ l’Hopital, France - an Internet-based education initiative for children with long-term illnesses in hospital;
• Mobile Crèches, India - day care centres for the children of migrant workers;
• Hospis Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia - which provides palliative care services to the community.
• Crusaid, UK - UK-based charity operating internationally to relieve poverty and illness caused by HIV/AIDS, and education and support to the families of those affected. Crusaid also conduct vaccine research.
