HSBC has pledged US$20,000 to the Red Cross Beslan Crisis Appeal which has been set up to address the emergency and long-term medical needs of those affected by the recent tragedy.
The money will assist the vital work of the Red Cross in helping injured or physically disabled children and other people with home care and nursing support. The Red Cross appeal will also help fund the cost of support for hostages and their families at psychological/rehabilitation centres.
A further US$5,000 has been contributed by HSBC in Russia to support a local appeal for the victims of the Beslan tragedy.
HSBC Group Chief Executive Stephen Green said: "The suffering of the families and the community of Beslan has touched the whole world. HSBC's customers, shareholders and employees have always given a high priority to the Community. They would expect the world's local bank to respond where we can."
