HSBC has opened its first HSBC Premier centre in mainland China.
HSBC Premier is the Group's premium global banking service for personal customers. At the new Premier centre in Shanghai, mainland Chinese customers enjoy dedicated relationship banking, and can use a range of services including foreign currency deposit services in eight currencies. Customers can also use a free 24-hour telephone banking service. Three further HSBC Premier centres are planned for Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen later in 2002.
Eddie Wang, Chief Executive China Business of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, said: "Our Premier service in mainland China represents a major milestone for HSBC's expansion of its personal financial service offerings in the country. We are bringing a world-class service to Shanghai, offering our customers one-on-one banking combined with local knowledge and international reach. We will continue enhancing our Premier service in China, as and when regulations permit."
HSBC Premier was launched in 2000 with the aim of rewarding high value personal customers with enhanced products and services. Over 160 dedicated HSBC Premier centres have been opened in 30 countries and territories and over 500,000 customers now use the service.

HSBC has the largest branch network among foreign banks in mainland China, comprising nine branches in Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wuhan and Xiamen, a sub-branch in Puxi, Shanghai, and representative offices in Chengdu and Chongqing.
