HSBC has today launched its internet banking service in mainland China, becoming the first foreign bank to offer online banking to local citizens and international customers in the Mainland.
Dicky Yip, Chief Executive China Business at The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, said: “The launch of internet banking services here has opened a new chapter for HSBC’s personal financial services in mainland China. We aim to build on the Group’s successful internet banking experience in many countries around the world, and provide quality online services to customers in the China market.”
Online personal banking services now offered by the bank include:
- Account balance and transaction enquiries;
- Transfers to local mainland China and overseas banks;
- Exchange and interest rate enquiries;
- Term deposit account opening and enquiries;
- Supporting services including cheque book ordering;
- Statement downloads and ability to update personal details.
Customers can register immediately for online@hsbc at www.hsbc.com.cn if they already have a phonebanking PIN (personal identification number) for a mainland China HSBC account. Alternatively customers can apply through any of the bank’s branches in the Mainland or call the customer service hotline on (86) 800-820 8878.
Mainland China adds to the Group’s growing personal online banking base. This currently comprises over 4 million registered users in 19 countries and territories worldwide, including Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and the US.
HSBC has the largest branch network among foreign banks in mainland China, comprising nine branches in Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wuhan and Xiamen, a sub-branch in Puxi, Shanghai, and representative offices in Chengdu and Chongqing. Earlier in the year, the bank launched foreign currency services for mainland Chinese citizens and companies at 10 locations in nine major cities across the country. The bank has also launched its HSBC Premier services in Shanghai and Beijing.
Established in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 1865, HSBC has had a continuous presence in China for more than 137 years. In May 2000, HSBC moved its China head office from Hong Kong to Pudong, Shanghai.
