International Management
Explore your unique potential.
HSBC's global interests require a group of highly talented and internationally mobile managers capable of working in any part of our business, in any location. The HSBC International Management programme is a unique opportunity, offering an internationally globally mobile banking career in financial services with the potential to progress to the highest levels of management.

International Managers (IMs) have played a key role in the success of HSBC since its founding member - The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation - was set up in 1865 to finance the growing trade between China and Europe. Our IMs build up a portfolio of global management and banking skills, which they develop from a range of challenging assignments. These could be in any one of the 87 countries and territories in which we operate, across both developed and emerging markets.
IMs are not specialist bankers and could find themselves working in various roles across all of HSBC Group's businesses and support functions, including Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM); Commercial Banking (CMB); Global Banking and Markets (GBM); Global Private Banking; Insurance; Audit; Risk Management; and Operations. You will need to be flexible as assignments are driven by business needs.
We are now looking for high-potential individuals to join us in 2012. Whether you are seeking your first role after university, a new challenge after completing an MBA or your next step professionally, International Management is a unique opportunity to build your skills and experiences into a rewarding International Management career.
IMs are among our most talented groups of employees, so we will expect a lot from you if you are to become one.
- You will need to commit to ongoing global mobility throughout your career
- You will need to make an immediate impact, regardless of the level you join at
- You will need a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with constantly changing roles
- You will need to demonstrate leadership potential
IMs require a special set of qualities in order to cope with and build on the challenges they face, both professionally and personally, from a career that requires ongoing global mobility. IMs are excited by the prospect of constant change that comes with working across a variety of different businesses. IMs are adaptable and flexible because assignments are driven by business needs. While we want to ensure that you build a rounded career and make good use of your skills and experiences, you will not have a say in the role or location to which you are assigned.
International Management does not appeal to everyone. If you wish to live in one country or to specialise in a particular area of banking, it is not for you. IMs will be expected to work in a wide range of locations and businesses in both developed and emerging economies. But if you are excited by the idea of developing a global management career in financial services, the International Management programme is one of the most extraordinary and unique opportunities available.
As you would expect, a career this challenging enjoys a highly competitive benefits package, including:
